Surgical career

“The extensive surgical case history of Prof. Nicola Mondaini, evidenced by his publications on various topics of urology and surgical andrology, was acquired under the constant guidance of Prof. Michelangelo Rizzo starting from 1997, within the activities of the Urology Clinic of the University of Florence. To refine his surgical expertise, Prof. Nicola Mondaini participated in the department and operating room activities of numerous prestigious international urological departments. Throughout 2000, at the Department of Urology at King’s College in London, under the guidance of Prof. Gordon Muir, he had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge of endoscopic surgical techniques on the prostate. In 2004, he undertook internships in the most important European centers of andrological surgery: At the San Giuseppe Hospital in Milan (Director Prof. E. Austoni) and Children University Hospital in Belgrade (Director Prof. S. Perovich), he enhanced his skills in correcting congenital and acquired penile curvatures with the most modern variants of albuginea plication techniques and incision of the fibrotic albuginea plaque with the creation of a saphenous vein patch. At Fundació Puigvert in Barcelona (Director Prof. E. Ruiz-Castañe) and the Midlesex Hospital in London (Director Prof. D. Ralph), he specialized in penile prosthetic surgery; at the Hospital in Trieste (Director Prof. E. Belgrano) and AKH in Hamburg (Director Prof. M. Fisch), he expanded his knowledge in testicular surgery. Starting from 2005, he became a Medical Director at the Santa Maria Annunziata Hospital in Florence where, under the guidance of Prof. Riccardo Bartoletti, he developed his expertise in bladder and kidney surgery, becoming responsible for the andrological surgical area.”
