Phimosis: circumcision

Fimosi: circoncisione - Circumsafe

Circumcision is a surgical procedure through which the foreskin of the penis is removed with the aim of leaving the glans exposed. It is performed for medical purposes in cases of phimosis, which is the narrowing of the foreskin opening. Phimosis can be congenital, that is, present at birth, or acquired when it manifests in adulthood due to diabetes, recurrent infections of the glans, or the presence of dermatological diseases such as lichen.

This surgical procedure can be performed using different techniques. Today, we have the possibility to perform it on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia in 60 seconds thanks to the use of a disposable stapler called CIRCUMSAFE. To perform all the phases—anesthesia, procedure, bandaging—a total time of 15 minutes can be estimated.

With this aid, in addition to reducing the operating time, the scar appears smooth compared to the more nodular appearance in classic or laser suturing—there is less postoperative edema, less bleeding, and less pain.

The shedding of the suture staples begins after about 7 days and concludes within a month, which is the time necessary for complete healing.

At our center, all existing techniques can be performed, but our current recommendation is directed towards the use of this extraordinary stapler.
