About me

My name is Nicola Mondaini, born in Florence in ’69, I am an Associate Professor of Urology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro, and I teach at the Master’s programs in Andrology at the Universities of Florence, Pisa, and also Catanzaro.

I have been engaged in clinical research since the early years of my specialization in Florence, followed by a fellowship in London at King’s College Hospital. I am a Clinician and Uro-andrology Surgeon, and my experience abroad has been fundamental: after London, I went to Belgrade in Serbia, then to Barcelona in Spain, and Hamburg in Germany. In recent years, I have been collaborating with Israel on the development of medical devices.

I love my job and I am involved in scientific communication; I have written two books: Vino ed Eros and Wikipene, both published by Giunti Editore (the latter is in the process of being translated into Chinese and English).

In addition to dealing with urology comprehensively, I have always focused on andrology, in which I am now considered a worldwide opinion leader. My areas of interest include:

• Penile Prosthetic Surgery, in which I performed the world’s first laparoscopic prostatectomy with simultaneous penile prosthesis placement, replicated also with robotics, which I can now perform using a technique I have perfected in private facilities;
• Erectile Dysfunction, with the possibility of using stem cells, PRP, and all the existing innovations for these procedures. I collaborate with Bioscence in San Marino;
• Premature Ejaculation, where I collaborate with major research centers worldwide;
• Oncology: testicular and prostate cancer; fertility surgery for varicocele, hydrocele, and vasectomy;
• External Genital Surgery, including circumcision and frenuloplasty;
• Pelvic Floor Disorders, both male and female, for which I am a lecturer in the physiotherapy degree program in Catanzaro;
• I deal with the prostate from both a clinical and surgical perspective, with the ability to perform procedures using all the innovative techniques available, such as laser or steam vapor, to preserve erection and ejaculation.
