Quarta di copertina
“SCRITTORI SENZA VERGOGNA”
The back cover or lower flap is the last page of any respectable book. More explicitly, it is the fourth part of the book’s format, and it is in that limited space that the author summarizes in a few lines the content of their work and their biographical notes. And it is always on the back cover that the ISBN code is usually present. But the back cover also turns out to be the most read part by those who have to choose a book and find themselves in the embarrassment of purchasing a work without knowing its content and the genre to which it belongs. Thanks to those few lines penned to summarize the work, the mechanism is activated in the reader’s mind that will push them to decide whether to buy or discard a book. Therefore, playing a fundamental role, this literary prize dedicated to the back cover aims to reward the writer who, within the most diverse writing techniques (ranging from the novel to the investigative book, from the scientific essay to the cookbook, to the comic or historical book), has the merit of being able to encourage reading at a historical moment when little is read and there is a great crisis in publishing. This is because the back cover is, in our opinion, not only an emblem of the writer’s ability to synthesize but also synonymous with the author’s ability to attract and seduce the reader with a few significant expressions. The prize, sponsored by the Tuscany Region, which has been held every year in Florence since 2010, aims to promote reading in a fun way that is close to the reading public. For this reason, the regulations provide that every year 8 books united by a common theme, although belonging to different genres, clash before different juries (including a popular one) who will acclaim the winner thanks to the active and necessary participation of the audience present.
